As some of you know, Conor's birthday is the day after Christmas. So he is now officially an adult, which is pretty much impossible to believe.
Conor's been busy the last three years being a student at St. Patrick High School. He plays alto sax in the jazz band, runs Cross Country, and is on the Academic Bowl Team, along with a smattering of other clubs. He got his drivers' license last Thanksgiving, and it has been a huge help for us to have a third driver in the house, especially with me working full time again.
2017 has been a big year for Conor. Over the summer, he completed his Eagle Scout project, which involved organizing a group of volunteers to build canoe and boat racks for Emily Oaks, a local nature center He also began his second year of caddying at Ridgemoor Country Club. Lots of early mornings, and lots of sunscreen for our fair-skinned Irish boy. And speaking of Irish, he also had the amazing opportunity to spend two weeks in Ireland exploring life as a potential college student at University College Dublin.
And speaking of colleges, this fall we entered the special kind of Twighlight Zone known as the college and scholarship application process. He has applied to eight schools, and is racing to get at least one, possibly three, more in by Jan 2nd. It's easy to get sucked into a crazy system - why so many? -- but we are just hoping that one of these schools will hit the sweet spot where he can get a quality education at a price point that works (making us no different than any other family in America.)
